The Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is ready to support the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry sector and other land use in the Indonesian Sub-National Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 through the use of bamboo.
"I am optimistic that this program can help alleviate poverty if it is carried out properly," said Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat at a press conference related to the Kick Off Socialization of the Indonesian Sub-National ’s Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 in Labuan Bajo, Antara, Wednesday, February 1.

According to Governor Viktor, bamboo can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions because it is able to absorb and store carbon. In addition, bamboo can also be processed into various quality products so as to provide opportunities for people to improve their welfare.
"This is in line with the agrophorestry program launched by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to improve the welfare of the people around the forest area, as well as strengthen the food security system," said Viktor.
In order to ensure that the agroforestry program can run well in NTT, Governor Viktor has asked the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to prepare a field supervisory team so that the prepared program can have an economic impact on the people of NTT.
He also said the local government plans to downstream by exporting bamboo charcoal abroad.
"We will prepare for exports to Japan, we have got a contract that is quite good and we will send it to Japan," he said.
Furthermore, he said that the NTT Provincial Government supports the achievement of the target of carbon neutral forestry sector by 2030 with conservation, namely seaweed cultivation and lobsters in the mouth of a Thousand Rote Island.
"It's a very good conservation area, so it not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also contributes to improving the economy of the people of NTT," he stressed.
West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi also expressed full support for efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry sector. He said West Manggarai would have a joint production house from bamboo raw materials in the near future.
Through the bamboo production house, the community can reduce the use of plastic bottles and support the efforts of the central government.
