JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar emphasized Indonesia's seriousness in dealing with the issue of climate change by confirming Indonesia's Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030.

"Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 is an declaration of the achievement of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry sector and other land use, where the absorption rate has been balanced or even higher than the emission rate of the related sector in 2030," he said, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, February 1.

Today, Minister Siti made a working visit to the Kick Off Socialization of the 2030 National Sub-FOLU Net Sink in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.

He said the 2030 FOLU Net Sink is an agenda for implementing climate mitigation and adaptation designed for forests and land.

The agenda also includes forestry activities and community participation, such as customary forests and mangroves with silvo-fisheries or ecotourism as well as in monitoring deforestation from peat (decomposition and fire), increasing natural forest capacity reducing degradation and increasing restoration regeneration as well as peat water management, restoration and forest rehabilitation, sustainable forest management, to optimizing productive land and law enforcement.

In 2022, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has carried out various activities to accelerate the implementation of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030, including the preparation of work plans and the socialization of national subs involving various stakeholders at the district to provincial levels.

This year's agenda is in the form of disseminating information on the Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program to the site level in 22 provinces.

"This socialization event is the first step in the preparation of the Indonesian Sub-National Work Plan's FOLU Net Sink 2030 in 22 provinces to detail the Indonesian Operational Plan's FOLU Net Sink 2030 to become targets for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions at the provincial level to the site level," explained Minister Siti.

Kick Off of Indonesian Sub-National Socialization & FOLU Net Sink 2030 in 22 provinces was marked by the traditional musical instrument sasando by Minister Siti and East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat.

"I hope that all Indonesian Sub-National Work Plans s FOLU Net Sink 2030 can be completed in May this year and can provide a better future for Earth and future generations," Minister Siti said.

East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat emphasized his commitment to support the Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

He said the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government has currently produced 2.5 million bamboo seeds and planted bamboo on an area of 1,300 hectares as an effort to support the Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 program through the bamboo agrophorestry.
