JAKARTA - A Pandawa Vocational School student Budi Luhur, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta fell from the fourth floor of the school building on Monday, January 30. This incident resulted in the student's death.

The All-Indonesian Teachers Federation (FSGI) encourages schools not to cover up cases and convey an open chronology regarding this content.

This is because it is possible that the student's fall was caused by the unsafe condition of the school fence for students. Therefore, the delivery of this chronology needs to be revealed as an evaluation material in the future.

"This is important to convey so that there is a lesson from this case so that there are no more casualties. All children must be protected wherever they are, including in the school environment," said FSGI Expert Council Retno Listyarti in her statement, Wednesday, February 1.

From this case, the school has stated that it will be responsible to the student's family by financing the funeral process for the victim. However, it is not enough there. Schools must also be responsible for the security of the school environment after this case.

"Although there has been an agreement between parents and schools not to proceed to the legal process, stakeholders are obliged to ensure that the same incident will not be repeated in the future and will take another victim," he said.

SGI assessed that the SMK school violated the national standard of education specifically for educational facilities and infrastructure in the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 57 of 2021.

With the proven negligence of the school in the accident in question, FSGI also concluded that the school met the criteria for unlawful acts regulated in the Civil Code article 1365.

"Therefore, regarding the accident of students who died falling from the 4th floor of the school building, FSGI proposed to the government to evaluate and review the granting of operational permits and school accreditation," he added.
