Bantul Police, Special Region of Yogyakarta, appealed to the public to be aware of online fraud by sending APB-formed wedding invitation files through messaging applications on mobile phones or WhatsApp. "The mode of online fraud by sending APK-formed files via WhatsApp messages has occurred again. If previously the mode of package submission was sent, now the mode of wedding invitation without mentioning who invited it," said Head of Public Relations of Bantul Police Iptu I Nengah Jeffry Prana Widnyana in a written message in Bantul, Antara, Monday, January 30. According to him, fraud with this mode is usually the perpetrator without introducing himself directly sending a 6.6 MB APB file with the name "Digital Marriage Certificate" with the sentence "We hope for its presence". "When asked, the sender did not answer and instead directed the recipient of the message to open the APK file," he said. He said that until now there had been no reports of fraud with this mode that had occurred in Bantul Regency. However, with a case similar to online fraud in the form of resi-packet shipments that had occurred in Bantul, the Police appealed to Bantul residents and their surroundings to be aware of fraud modes in the form of APK. "If the victim is 'click' or open the document file, the victim will install it and the OTP (One Time Password) credentials will be stolen from the victim's device," he said. According to him, after being able to steal OTP, there will be a transfer of the m-Banking account from the victim's cellphone to the perpetrator's cellphone so that the perpetrator can freely drain the victim's account. Therefore, the public is expected to be observant about the various warnings that exist. He said m-Banking users should be extra careful by not installing any apps from outside the Play Store, not giving permission to read or send SMS to unknown apps, monitoring apps that can access SMS, and removing non-essential apps, and if you find SMS thief apps, delete them immediately and reset m-Banking. "Finally, M-Banking users who have already installed the APK can immediately change the password and PIN of transaction approval. And report this incident to the authorities," he said.
