Gender Justice Affairs, Regional KPU Teams Asked For Good View

JAKARTA - The selection team (timsel) for candidates for the General Election Commission (KPU) of provinces, regencies and cities hopes to have a good view on gender justice. This was emphasized by researcher from the Center for Political Studies at the University of Indonesia (Puskapol UI) Delia Wildianti. "Hopefully later the cells stationed in the regions will have a good view on gender justice, not only physically there are women, but rather a gender justice perspective," said Delia when she was a resource person in a media discussion entitled "Provincial and Regency/City KPU Recruitment: Selection of Organizers for the 2024 Election as National Integration Facilities" at the KPU Media Center, Jakarta, Friday, January 27, was confiscated by Antara. According to her, a good perspective on gender justice is important for realizing women's representation in KPU membership in the regions.

In addition, Delia advised the KPU to provide technical guidance (bimtek) regarding gender justice to prospective KPU members in the regions. So far, Delia said there are several KPUs in a number of areas that do not yet have female members.

"What needs to be paid attention to by the KPU is that there are some areas where there are no (members) of women. They are not colored," he said.

These areas, he continued, include Riau Province, Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan), and Maluku. Delia hopes that the KPU can pay attention to the issue so that there are female members in every regional KPU in Indonesia. "Hopefully this will be the concern of the KPU," he said. Previously, the KPU planned to establish a closed selection team for candidates for regional KPU members. The plan was contained in the Service Memorandum Number 122/TU.01.1/SJ/2023 which was signed by KPU Secretary General (Sekjen) Bernad Darmawan Sutrisno on January 13, 2022.

The official memorandum relates to requests for discussion in plenary meetings related to the formation of a selection team for candidates for regional KPU members for wave I and II. The chairman of the KPU after an audience with the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) said, even though it was carried out behind closed doors, the KPU ensured that the recruitment of candidates for KPU members in the regions still prioritized competence. "Later, we will recruit according to the competence required by the KPU to become a team," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 18.
