Garut Resort Police (Polres) has prepared a team of psychiatrists and criminal experts to examine people with mental disorders (ODGJ) who burned a mosque in Leles District, Garut Regency, West Java, to ensure the continuation of their legal status.

"We examined witnesses, collected evidence related to the case and we have coordinated with psychiatric doctors and also with criminal experts," said Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro, followed by ANTARA, Friday, January 27.

He said the perpetrator with the initials E (29) was arrested after the incident of burning a mosque in Lembang Village, Leles District, Garut Regency, Sunday night, January 22, 2023.

The perpetrator has been arrested and taken to a mental hospital in West Bandung Regency for further medical treatment.

The police chief said that the police were still carrying out legal proceedings against the perpetrators, even though they had obtained witness statements and a medical history that the perpetrator had a mental disorder.

The results of the examination by the expert team, said the Police Chief, will be submitted to the public on Monday, January 30. The expert team will explain whether the perpetrator has a mental disorder or not, and also the case has been decided to continue to investigate or be stopped.

"Monday tomorrow we will decide whether or not this case is appropriate to continue," he said.

Rio revealed that so far the police have collected witness statements from residents and families of the perpetrators who explained that the perpetrators had suffered from mental disorders for a long time and had been hospitalized three times.
