JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin ensured that the government and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would continue to narrow the gap for corruption.

"We hope that the steps taken by the Government and by the KPK are at least, if you can't eliminate (corruption), (then) reduce (or) narrow the space for corruption. I think that's the principle," said the Vice President when delivering a press statement at the Syamsudin Noor Air Force Base, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan), Friday 27 January.

The vice president said this in response to Attorney General ST Burhanuddin's statement some time ago who believed that no area in Indonesia was free from corruption, including the ranks of prosecutors in the regions.

Efforts to minimize corruption opportunities, continued Ma'ruf, were carried out by building areas free from corruption and anti-corruption zones.

"Then also carry out various (other efforts), including services that we simplify. For example, by (building) a Public Service Mall (MPP), so that the service is carried out there is no range. So, it can be accessed directly, quickly, cheaply, and there are no illegal levies and so on," he said.

According to him, this is one of the systems being built by the Government to minimize the opportunity for corruption, as well as with the support of the KPK as an independent institution in charge of eradicating corruption.

"We know that, like the KPK, it carries out its functions of education, prevention, and prosecution. These three (functions) by the KPK are carried out simultaneously; and that is part of an effort to suppress (and) minimize corruption," he added.

Finally, regarding ST Burhanuddin's statement, the Vice President revealed that this was an evaluation material to see the development of efforts to eradicate corruption in the country.

"I think the problems are opinions or views. Maybe we'll see in the development," he said.
