JAKARTA - BPBD Bintan Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri), recorded that the number of victims affected by tidal flooding in the area reached 3,306 people. Spread across nine sub-districts.

The head of BPBD Bintan Ramlah said that the tidal flood had occurred from Monday, January 23, 2023, to Thursday, January 26, 2023. The trigger for extreme weather was strong winds and rainfall with high intensity and high tide height.

"This condition causes tidal flooding to hit coastal areas in every sub-district in Bintan," Ramlah said in Bintan, Thursday, January 26, quoted by Antara.

Ramlah stated that thousands of victims affected by the tidal flood are currently taking refuge in the refugee camps that have been built by the Bintan Regency Government together with related parties, because tidal flooding is predicted to still have the potential to occur over the next few days.

For Mantang District, he said, the refugee camps are located in Balai Desa (Matang Baru and Mantang Besar), SDN 004 Pulau Sirai, SDN 002 Dendun Village, former SD building, Old Mantang Village Hall, and TPA MT Riau. For Bintan Pesisir District at the Village Hall.

Jalan Raya Tanjungpinang Tanjung Uban, Jembeling intersection, was also flooded due to the high water discharge.

His party also collected data and evacuated tidal flood victims by involving joint elements from the Bintan Regency Government, TNI/POLRI, PUPRP Service, Health Service, Social Service, Kominfo Service, Perkim Service, District Elements, Local Village/Village Elements, PMI, Tagana, as well as Volunteers and Community Association.

Ramlah added that the current conditions still experience moderate rainfall and sea water gradually recedes. The height of the tide is 0.50 - 1 meter, then the waves are estimated to experience an altitude of 3.5 meters.

"The government and all stakeholders work hand in hand to help residents affected by the tidal flood, such as distributing adequate logistical assistance," said Ramlah.
