The General Election Commission (KPU) of Bandung City, West Java, Tuesday, inaugurated 453 members of the Voting Committee (PPS) for Simultaneous General Elections (Pemilu) 2024. During the inauguration, PPS was asked to be able to carry out honest and clean elections.

Bandung City KPU chairman Suharti said the inauguration was the initial moment for PPS members to declare an integrity pact and commit to holding elections with all the consequences.

"Of course, prioritizing independence, imparity, and high integrity, the establishment of democracy in the city of Bandung to elect a leader and representative of the people for the next five years," said Suharti to Antara, Tuesday, January 24.

He said the PPS members would later work in 151 urban villages in Bandung City. Each of the villages will have three PPS members.

For the 2024 General Election, according to him, the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) can become a member of the District Election Committee (PPK) and PPS based on KPU Regulation Number 8 of 2022 and KPU Decree Number 534 of 2022.

However, from the entire process of inauguration of PPK and PPS, according to him, Bandung City has not yet had ASN to participate as a committee for the democratic party.

Even so, he predicts that there will be a number of ASNs who will also be members of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS), because the Bandung City KPU requires around 50 thousand KPPS members for the selection process at 7,524 polling stations (TPS).

"So, they are still being demanded for independence and imparity. They still hold elections in accordance with the existing corridors," said Suharti.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, hopes that the inauguration can make the election process in the city of Bandung even better. He hopes that the 453 PPS members will work well in upholding democracy.

"Hopefully voter participation can be above 90 percent, we are quite sure," Yana said.
