Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro stated that the mosque fire in Leles District, Garut Regency, was due to the actions of people with mental disorders (ODGJ) and now the perpetrator is back undergoing treatment at a mental hospital. "ODGJ (people with mental disorders) is correct, has been admitted to a mental hospital three times, the medicine seems to have run out at that time," said Rio when contacted via a cell phone in Garut, Monday, January 23. He said the ODGJ carried out a burning act inside the mosque in Lembang Village, Leles District, Garut Regency, Sunday, January 22 night, resulting in a mosque building until its roof was burned. "Fired inside (the mosque) eventually burned, on it caught fire, then we took action, we secured him," he said. His party then looked for information regarding the condition of the perpetrator until it was known that there was a history of mental disorders. The perpetrator's condition, according to the Police Chief, reinforced by a history of having been admitted to a mental hospital three times, was also strengthened by the community that the perpetrator was suffering from mental disorders.

"It turned out that he had three medical records of mental hospitals, then we took him to a mental hospital," Rio told Antara. The police chief conveyed that from the results of the examination, the perpetrator admitted that he was in a cold mosque, then tried to warm his body by burning something. "He said he was cold in the mosque," he said. The police chief emphasized that the burning action inside the mosque was purely because of ODGJ's actions, there was no other intentional element. Furthermore, the police together with government elements and the community cleaned the mosque building materials to be repaired immediately so that they could be used for worship activities as usual. "I along with members, three pillars, cleaned the mosque and then we will fix it, we will rehabilitate it again so that it is quickly reused," he said.
