Fighting The European Union Not Implementing Revolutionary Guards To The Terrorist List, Iran: Shooting One Foot

JAKARTA - Iran warned the European Union (EU) would shoot its own leg if it included the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the terrorist list, a day after the European Parliament asked the European Union and its member states to do so.

"We have repeatedly said that Revolutionary Guards are formal and sovereign organizations whose role is critical to ensuring Iran's security," Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said during a phone call with the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell. January 19.

"The steps taken by the European Parliament to register the organization as a terrorist are shots at European feet," he stressed.

On Wednesday, the European Parliament called on the European Union to include Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, condemning the suppression of protesters within the country and supply of drones to the Russian military for use in Ukraine.

"It is important to respect mutual security in the world of diplomacy and increase mutual trust, rather than following the language of threats and unfriendly actions. In the case of any terrorist list, Iran will take reciprocal action," said Amirabdollahian.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, which coordinates activities between conventional Iranian soldiers and Revolutionary Guards, also warned the European Union on Thursday not to include the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Iran's official IRNA news agency said.

"The recent actions of the European Parliament, apart from having no precedent in international regulations and regulations, will affect global and regional security and peace, the European Parliament must recognize these consequences," the Armed Forces General Staff said in a statement.

The statement also accused Western powers of being behind the riots in Iran.

It is known that widespread anti-government demonstrations erupted in Iran in September after the death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in police custody of morality, enforcing the mandatory dress code of the Islamic Republic for women.

The European Parliament condemned the crackdown on protesters by Iranian security forces, including the strong Revolutionary Guard Corps, as "brutal".
