Mahfud MD Calls The Land Mafia Problem Very Disgusted, There Are 11 Modes Of Violation

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD admitted that the land mafia issue was very complicated. There are at least 11 modes of violation used by the mafia according to the findings of the Menkopolhukam Team.

This was said by Mahfud MD when holding a coordination meeting between ministries, institutions, prosecutors, and the National Police, at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Office, Thursday, January 19.

During the meeting, representatives of community leaders were also present who had been active in advocacy for land mafia cases, such as Eros Djarot, Denny Indrayana, Anwar Abbas, and Bambang Harimurti.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that the land mafia issue was very complicated if the existing law was carried out as it was.

"Thus, I conclude that this is complicated because the land mafia does its mafia (practice) by breaking the law, that's very fast, while we want to solve it we have to follow the rule of law," said Mahfud when giving the introduction to the opening meeting.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs conveyed the findings of at least 11 modes of land mafia conflict currently occurring based on the findings of the Kemenkopolhukam Team.

One of the modes of land problems found by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs is the existence of a procedural error in issuing land rights certificates that cause overlapping of land areas between communities.

Mahfud emphasized that his party was aware of these problems, but invited the meeting participants who were present to imagine how complicated and difficult the solution process would be.

"If people say 'why don't we take action?', we actually have this formulation because we have started to act so we know the map of the problem," he said.

"It's not that we don't want to solve it, but it's not easy because we solve it, we have to go through the law, while those who steal (land) don't go through the law arbitrarily. Now people arbitrarily can immediately commit violations," said Mahfud.
