JAKARTA - East Jakarta Social Service officers arrested two beggars who pretended to be blind in the Halim Perdanakusuma area. Officers call beggars an income of around IDR 150,000 per day
The Commander of the East Jakarta City Social Service Sub-dept. Rapid Response Team, Kurniawan Muhammad, said that both of them were secured on Wednesday, January 18 evening.
"We brought two beggars with the initials AA and ML to the Bangun Daya 2 Cipayung Development Social Institution to be given guidance," Kurniawan said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 19.
While securing the two beggars, officers found Rp450,000 in cash held by beggars as a result of begging.
According to him, the money was the result of begging using the mode of pretending to be blind.
"Earlier, after being counted by the team, the total was approximately Rp. 450,000," he said.
According to him, based on the recognition of AA and ML, daily income from the mode of pretending to be blind is more than Rp. 100,000.
"According to the confession, (the daily income) is approximately Rp. 150,000," said Kurniawan.
The modus operandi of the two was that AA served as a beggar who pretended to be blind, while ML only guided AA.
Before begging with the mode of pretending to be blind, AA and ML's income from begging was classified as small.
"Before pretending to be blind, I had begged, and tried to pretend to be blind for seven months," he said.
