JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) managed to thwart a shipment of 222,697 kilograms of dry cannabis using the cargo shipping mode. In that case, four people were successfully arrested and evidence of thousands of marijuana was destroyed.

The destruction of cannabis evidence was led by the Director of Detention and Evidence Monitoring (Wastahti) of the National Narcotics Agency, Brigadier General Samudi.

In his statement, Samudi explained, this evidence was the result of disclosing the illicit traffic of narcotics using the mode of sending cargo packages in December 2022.

"Three suspects with the initials AE alias Adul, RJ, and MF alias Fadil were arrested by BNN officers along with 223,897 kg of cannabis evidence, on Wednesday 7 December 2022", said Samudi.

He said, the three were secured after the package containing marijuana sent via cargo expedition was handed over in front of the Cijantung Mall, East Jakarta.

At that time, officers arrested AE and MF after receiving the package, while RJ was arrested by officers while fleeing toward Depok.

Based on the results of the investigation, it is known that the suspects were ordered to take the cannabis packets by an inmate with the initials G who was in the Tangerang Class I Prison.

For their actions, the suspects were charged under Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) sub-article 111 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum penalty of the death penalty.

Samudi added this disclosure had succeeded in saving 111 thousand of lives from the misuse of cannabis-type narcotics.
