JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo denied that the beating by foreign workers (TKA) against local residents was the trigger for clashes at PT Gunbuter Nickel Industry (GNI) in North Morowali (Morut), Central Sulawesi. Based on the results of a temporary investigation, the cause of the clash was due to provocations following the rejection of the call for a strike. "The incident that occurred initially there was an invitation to strike employees. Then there it caused pros and cons and then there was an attempt to force it and that's where it was rejected," said General Sigit on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, January 16. However, this refusal went viral by certain individuals. Then, he was given a narrative that seemed to be the trigger for a violent crime. "It was viralized that there was a beating from foreign workers to migrant workers", he said. On the other hand, in handling the case, dozens of people have been arrested. In fact, some have been upgraded as suspects. "Several vandalism perpetrators have been arrested, approximately 71 and 17 are currently suspects," said Sigit. For information, there was a clash between local residents and foreign workers (TKA) at PT GNI, precisely in North Morowali, Central Sulawesi, on Saturday, January 14. As a result of the clashes, several PT GNI facilities were damaged. In fact, two of them died.
