PT GNI's Version Of The Hemorrhagic Distortion Of Local And Foreign Workers In North Morowali

JAKARTA - The bloody clashes that occurred between workers of PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI) killed 2 people. The issue blew out the riots because of the abuse of foreign workers against citizen workers (WNI) and violence against female workers.

Head of Human Resources and General Affairs of PT GNI Muknis Basri Assegaf denied the circulating issue. He said the attack on employees occurred during factory operating hours so that activities were stopped and caused severe damage.

He said the looting occurred against 100 mess employees of Indonesian citizens and foreigners. As well as about six heavy equipment and operating vehicles belonging to the company caught fire.

"They also attacked foreign workers to stop working. And after the riots emerged, they then burned and looted the mess of local workers, looted the TNI mess and then burned it," said Muknis in an official statement, Monday, January 16, confiscated by Antara.

Muknis said that in the bloody clashes, the North Morowali Police managed to secure 70 suspected perpetrators. As a result of the incident, he said, two people were killed, nine people were injured.

Muknis said PT GNI had coordinated with the authorities for a thorough investigation related to the demonstration incident that led to riots that took place at PT GNI on Saturday, January 14.

"We deeply regret the incident. The company will coordinate with the authorities to investigate the incident," he said.

Muknis revealed that on Sunday, January 15, a meeting was held attended by the Director of Intelligence and Security of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police and the North Morowali Regional Secretary Musda Guntur who was accompanied by the Morut Police Chief and the Dandim Morowali and Morowali.

"In the meeting, all parties regretted the incident that caused damage and caused harm to many parties, both companies, employees and residents around the factory who were affected by their daily activities," he said.
