JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, poked fun at the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) regarding victims of rape cases against a 17-year-old child in Lahat, South Sumatra. According to him, LPSK was not'short' or moved quickly so the victim sought protection from the famous lawyer, Hotman Paris. This was said by Habiburokhman highlighting the light sentence against the perpetrators of the case during a meeting with the Chairman of the LPSK, Hasto Atmojo, in the DPR Commission III room, Monday, January 16. "There is a case that disturbs conscience and escapes LPSK, namely the case of raping teenagers in Lahat, South Sumatra. The perpetrator was sentenced to a very light sentence, then his family sought justice on social media, not seeking justice from LPSK," said Habiburokhman. He considered that the light verdict for the suspect was due to the LPSK not providing maximum protection to the victim. So that the victim is easily intimidated by forcibly accepting the verdict. "It can reach a light verdict, I think because from the start we were negligent, we did not provide maximum protection to victims. So maybe victims whose families are structurally weak can be intimidated, can be suppressed, and forced to accept such a light verdict," explained Habiburokhman. Even though the legislator for the DKI Jakarta electoral district continued, light sentences do not need to occur if LPSK took the initiative to pick up the ball from the beginning of the case. Where he said, LPSK could monitor the trial and the performance of the prosecutors who handled this case. Habiburokhman also regretted that the victim came to Jakarta to meet Hotman Paris, not LPSK to help his case. "In the end, the victim went to Jakarta to meet Mr. Hotman Paris, looking for justice, which is not mandatory, yes, we must, sir, provide guarantees that they will get justice," he said. Habiburokhman added that although the prosecutor who tried had been evaluated, he asked LPSK not to be missed again. Therefore he asked LPSK to also conduct an evaluation. "Okay, now the prosecutor has been evaluated, he said the JPO team will be subject to punishment. But we are a little missed, sir, not only LPSK, we are also missed," said Habiburokhman.
