ACEH - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the activities of Aceh Singkil Regency residents were back to normal after being rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.2 on Monday, January 16.

"Residents' activities remain normal after this earthquake. Until now, it has been reported that there has been no impact on casualties," said Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, January 16, as reported by Antara.

He explained that this incident had caused local residents to panic, because the earthquake was felt 3-10 seconds in four districts, namely Aceh Singkil Regency, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Nias Regency, and South Aceh Regency.

The Aceh Singkil Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that it immediately dispatched a rapid reaction team to areas that felt the shock. The BPBD team traced the area of the shock to check the potential impact of the damage.

"BNPB has coordinated with the local BPBD and monitored the post-earthquake situation through the BNPB Pusdalops. The public is advised to be alert and prepared for potential aftershocks. Make sure the sources of information related to the earthquake are obtained from sources that can be accounted for," said Abdul.

An earthquake M 6.2 occurred in Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh Province, Monday, January 16 at around 05:30 WIB. The epicenter of the earthquake was 47 km southeast of Aceh Singkil Regency.
