BENGKULU - The Food and Drug Control Center (BPOM) and the Bengkulu Police confiscated thousands of Samcodin cough drugs which should not be traded carelessly and must be prescribed by a doctor. The types of drugs seized were 25 Samcodin tablets which were still in plastic, 40 boxes of pills, 1,971 Samcodin tablets, 389 strips of packages that had been opened, and 13 strips of packages that had been opened with the contents of five strips. "We still find that there is circulation of illegal drugs and food, especially in South Bengkulu Regency. There have been findings of certain drugs that have been misused on a fairly large scale, namely the flu drug and the cough of Samcodin," said Head of BPOM Bengkulu Yogi Abaso Mataram in Bengkulu City, Antara, Friday, January 13. The cough drug contains dextromethorphan which can cause hallucinatory, drunk, excessive euphoria to nerve damage if misused for a long period of time. In addition to confiscating thousands of cough medicines, the Bengkulu Police arrested SU (36), a resident of Pino District, South Bengkulu Regency. "From the suspect's hands, thousands of cough drugs were found, both those that were still complete were in the strip, as well as those that had been opened, and wrapped in plastic and placed in jars," he said. The arrest began when his party together with the Bengkulu Police carried out an operation to take action or intensively eradicate illegal drugs and foods. Then the officers found an act of abuse of health products, namely carrying out drug abuse transactions, one of which was at a shop in Padang Lebar Village, Pino District, South Bengkulu Regency. Yogi explained that the drugs at SU's residence did not have provisions and did not have a permit, especially that the drug seller was not a health worker or pharmacist. "From this operation, it was concluded that the drugs were certain drugs and did not meet the provisions," he also said. Currently, thousands of drugs that have been strengthened from their packs will still be examined to prove that the drug is a type of Samcodin drug. SU is threatened with Articles 196 and 198 of Law Number 36 of 2009 in conjunction with Article 83 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 36 of 2014 concerning Health and Health Workers with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison. "We suspect that these certain drugs are not for personal interests or treatment, but are definitely for abuse. The owner has been detained and we have entrusted them to the Bengkulu Police Headquarters," said Yogi as well.
