National Police Chief Ensures Firm Action on KKB in Papua

PAPUA - National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the Indonesian Army (TNI)-National Police will work together to oversee all Indonesian government policies related to development in Papua.

The TNI-National Police, said Sigit, have coordinated and communicated with the Government, in this case, the PUPR Ministry. This was done to find out what are the obstacles in the infrastructure development program in the Land of Papua.

After this coordination process, Sigit said, the role of the TNI-National Police was needed to ensure that all of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) policies for equitable development and increased welfare in Papua could run optimally.

"Because this is part of a program to improve the welfare of the Papuan people. Of course, the TNI-National Police are present to ensure that everything goes well", said Sigit in a briefing by the Commander and Chief of the Indonesian National Police to TNI-National Police soldiers in the Papua region, quoted from a written statement, Monday, January 9th.

The government policies related to priority programs in Papua include the development of tourist destinations, urban area development, and infrastructure for agricultural areas.

Meanwhile, the Major Projects include the construction of Special Economic Zones (KEK) airport development and several programs related to expansion, as well as the special assignment of health workers in Papua and West Papua.

Sigit revealed, in overseeing all government policies in Papua, his party took two approaches, namely the soft approach and the hard approach. In this case, the soft approach is carried out by providing education, socialization processes, and improving the quality of the education sector and human resources.

"So that there is a faster Transfer of Knowledge to improve the welfare of the Papuan people related to the development program that is currently being implemented", said Sigit before TNI-National Police soldiers.

Even so, Sigit emphasized, the TNI-National Police will also carry out a Hard Approach to all parties who want to thwart Government policies for the welfare of the Papuan people.

"Related to the problem of disruption to security and order, because there are indeed several groups commonly known as the Armed Criminal Group which continue to carry out attacks. So of course it has an impact on hampering the development process. Of course, we have to take steps to enforce law enforcement in the field in a firm and measurable way. We can all walk proportionally", said Sigit.

In enforcing the law, Sigit stated that his party always coordinates and communicates with Komnas HAM both at the central and Papua regional levels. This is to ensure that the law enforcement steps taken are proportionate.

"Of course, we are trying so that in the future our law enforcement actions can be right on target and not have an impact on the public who may later become victims who should not be part of an armed criminal group", said Sigit.

TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono stated that by conducting working visits and absorbing the aspirations of various parties in Papua, they would be used as input to determine policies and steps to be taken in the future.

"That I will spend on problems, yes the term, to absorb aspirations from below what must be done in the framework of future policymakers and future planning", said Yudo.

That way, Yudo said, in the future, appropriate policies will be taken to make all government programs or policies successful in the Land of Papua.

"So that we can make policy decisions to accelerate development in Papua. By government policy, increase welfare", explained Yudo.

Yudo reiterated that the TNI and National Police will be fully prepared and professional in overseeing all Government policies to develop Papua.

"Of course, this needs support from the TNI-National Police to provide security guarantees for all its workers and also for other infrastructure. And also with the new autonomous regions, we will assist the Regional Government and the TNI in their main task of assisting the Police in accelerating development in the regions", said Yudo.
