Russia And Ukraine Again Take Detention Exchange, Head Of President Zelensky's Office: We Must Bring Everyone Home

JAKARTA - Russia and Ukraine again exchanged detainees, as many as 50 people each on Sunday, in a welcome agreement in Moscow and Kyiv.

Russia's Defense Ministry said 50 of their returning soldiers would be flown to Moscow for medical and psychological rehabilitation.

"On January 8, as a result of negotiations, 50 Russian soldiers, who were in deadly danger while detained, were returned from territory controlled by the Kyiv regime," the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Ukraine confirmed the information and said Russia had released 50 Ukrainian soldiers as part of the same deal.

"Other successful POWER exchanges (war offers). 50 Ukrainian soldiers have returned," Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine's presidential office, said on Twitter.

"This will continue. We have to take everyone home, and we will," he said.

Yermak uploaded a picture of the Ukrainian soldiers being released holding a food bag near the bus they were going to ride, as well as a video of them singing the Ukrainian national anthem while traveling.

"We are returning people arrested at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as well as defenders of Mariupol, people from Donetsk, from near Bakhmut, as well as from Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kherson and other regions," Yermak said as reported by CNN January 9.

It is known, this is the 36th exchange between Russia and Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, with 1,646 people, the military and civilians, returning to Ukraine according to the Coordinating Headquarters for the Implementation of War Prisoners in Kyiv.
