Qantas Sabet Holds The Safest Airlines In The World, Asia Dominated The List Of Top 20

JAKARTA - The Airline Ratings.com rating site announced 20 of the world's safest airlines in 2023, with Qantas Australia at the top while Asian airlines dominating the list of the top 20 out of 385 airlines worldwide.

Qantas repeated his achievement as the safest airline in the world, after last year only being ranked seventh.

This airline has an operational history of 100 years and is recognized as the oldest airline in the world to continue operating.

Previously, Qantas topped the list of the safest airlines from 2014 to 2017 and 2019 to 2021.

During the pandemic, Qantas was forced to ground most of its fleet after Australia implemented some of the world's strictest COVID-19 control measures, effectively banning travel.

Airline Ratings.com monitors 385 airlines worldwide. Various factors are considered as part of the world's safest annual ranking of airlines, including serious incidents, recent fatal accidents, industry-leading safety initiatives, expert pilot training assessments, and the age of each airline's fleet.

"Our top 20 airlines stand out in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation and launch of new aircraft," said Editor-in-Chief Airline Ratings.com Geoffrey Thomas, launching The National News January 3.

Behind Qantas, Air New Zealand is in second place after topping last year's list. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines consecutively completed the top five list.

Apart from Qantas, Etihad and Emirates are of concern, because the success of the two airlines from the United Arab Emirates is in the top 10.

"Etihad and Emirates stand out equally in terms of safety. Both airlines lead the world in purchasing new aircraft that are safer and more fuel efficient. And both operators have launched customers for new designs like 777X," said Thomas.

The aviation expert praised Emirates and Etihad for raising safety standards.

Overall, Asian airlines dominated the list of the top 20 with Emirates' success in seventh place, EVA Air in ninth and Cathay Pacific in eleventh place.
