JAKARTA - Around 100 stalls at Youtefa Market, Abepura District, Jayapura City, Papua, Saturday morning, January 7, were burned down.

Abepura Police Chief AKP Suparmanto suspects that the fire that caused the stall to burn at Abepura's Youtefa Market was caused by an electrical short circuit.

From the reports received, the fire came from one of the stalls selling clothes but quickly spread due to the strong winds and the condition of stalls and selling goods for traders who were flammable.

"Although there are allegations due to an electrical short circuit, we are still waiting for a complete report from members who are currently investigating as well as collecting data," said Abepura Police Chief AKP Suparmanto as quoted by Antara.

Jayapura City Fire Department Head Margaretha Veronita Kirana separately said the fire could only be extinguished at around 08.30 WIT after a fire car assisted by a water canon was deployed to extinguish it.

"Currently, the fire has been extinguished but it is not certain how many stalls were burned," explained the Head of the Jayapura City Fire Department, Margaretha.

As of Saturday (7/1) there were four fires in the Jayapura City area, namely in West Koya, Tanah Hitam, Bse G and the Youtefa market.
