JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, said he would inspect several locations for the 2023 ASEAN Summit with Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.

This was revealed by Heru after he met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cecep Herawan, and the Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andy Rachmianto, at City Hall DKI Jakarta.

Heru explained, this meeting also discussed Indonesia's readiness to become Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, where the majority of international forum conferences were held in Jakarta.

"We discussed the readiness of the 2023 ASEAN Summit. Regarding infrastructure and locations that heads of state must attend. The next agenda will be carried out with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministries. We will tour", said Heru, Friday, January 6.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cecep Herawan, said that starting in January, Indonesia had become the Chair of ASEAN. With the spirit of ASEAN chairmanship, he wants people to be able to feel it too.

"For this reason, because DKI Jakarta Province is of course the largest, we also want to ask for support from the Acting Governor. Synergy is needed on how we can start socializing together regarding this ASEAN chairmanship", said Cecep.

"We at the Ministry are also conducting an assessment related to the later implementation because the time is very short until September. We want to explore first with the Acting Governor what things we can link together in supporting the success of the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship", he continued.

Cecep explained, two government efforts need to be successful in carrying out their duties as the host of the 2023 ASEAN Summit. First, regarding substance, what can be given to the community and ASEAN as a region? Second, how to use ASEAN chairmanship to show Indonesia's progress.

"There will be a lot of ASEAN meetings throughout the year, around 2,000 more, and the majority of these meetings will be in Jakarta. Why, because the ASEAN Secretariat is in Jakarta. We will encourage the ASEAN Secretariat to be the host. Therefore the surrounding infrastructure is good, and supportive too. That's why the role of the Governor and his staff are very crucial, how to ensure that this series of meetings go well in Jakarta", he added.
