KPK: Corruption Has A Bad Impact On The Economy And Sociality Of The Papuan People

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that the investigation into the alleged bribery and gratification that ensnared the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was carried out for the sake of the community. They want to fight the impact of corruption so that welfare can be realized.

"The handling of cases in Papua is the KPK's commitment to encourage the progress of the Papuan people who are prosperous and free from corruption. Because corruption has had a real bad impact on economic and social conditions," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata which was broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, January 6.

Alexander said the eradication of corruption in Papua was not only through prosecution. This institution also takes precautions to provide assistance to local governments and entrepreneurs.

The local government and entrepreneurs in Bumi Cendrawasih, continued Alexander, were asked to be transparent and accountable. So, in the future a good government can be realized.

"KPK also intensively provides provision and education for government and Papuan officials so that anti-corruption values are educated," he said.

"Until then it was realized that Papuans were advanced and anti-corruption cultured," continued Alexander.

The anti-corruption commission named Papua Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect in alleged bribery and gratification. He is suspected of accepting bribes from the Director of PT Tabi Bangun Papua (TBP) Rijantono Lakka related to project work.

In this case, Rijantono is suspected of having a meeting with Lukas Enembe and several officials in the province of Papua. Finally, he got three projects with a value of Rp41 billion.

In detail, the multi-year project to improve the Entropy-Hamadi road with a value of Rp. 14.8 billion; the multi-year rehabilitation project for facilities and infrastructure supporting PAUD Integration worth Rp. 13.3 billion; and the multi-year project to organize the AURI outdoor shooting venue with a value of Rp. 12.9 billion.

The second agreement came after Rijantono agreed to give the project fee percentage up to 14 percent of the contract value. In addition, he also paid Rp1 billion.

Apart from Rijantono, the KPK suspects that Lukas also received gratuities of up to billions of rupiah. However, the number is still being investigated by investigators.
