RIAU - The Riau Islands Provincial Government claims the Riau Islands inflation rate is the third lowest in Sumatra after Bangka Belitung and Lampung. Riau Islands Provincial Secretary Adi Prihantara said official BPS data showed that in December 2022, Riau Islands inflation year on year (yoy) was 5.83 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 113.29. "Inflation occurred due to the increase in IHK from 107.05 in December 2021 to 113.29 in December 2022," said Regional Secretary Adi in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Tuesday, January 3. Adi said a number of inflation control efforts had been carried out by the Riau Islands Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), namely the operation of cheap markets in Batam City eight times, including the Riau Islands Provincial Government five times and the Batam City Government three times. Then in Tanjungpinang City it was carried out once and in Lingga Regency twice. "We continue to coordinate TPID in Batam City, Tanjungpinang, Karimun Regency, and Bintan Regency, as well as carry out routine supervision of the availability of supplies and prices to market traders," said Adi. Meanwhile, Head of BPS Riau Islands Darwis Sitorus said that the inflation that occurred in the area was due to an increase in prices shown by the increase in the index of expenditure groups, namely food, beverage and tobacco groups, an increase of 7.40 percent, clothing and footwear groups experienced an increase of 1.43 percent of housing, water, electricity, and household fuels increased by 2.04 percent. Furthermore, the group of equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance of households increased by 4.93 percent, health groups increased by 0.31 percent, transportation groups rose by 16.93 percent, recreation groups, sports, and culture increased by 2.22 percent. Education groups also increased by 2.77 percent, as well as the food and beverage/restaurant supply group increased by 3.81 percent, and other personal care and services groups increased by 6.32 percent. Information, communication, and financial services groups decreased by 0.30 percent. The Riau Islands inflation rate on a month to month (mtm) December 2022 is 1.11 percent. Inflation occurred due to an increase in the IHK Index from 112.05 in November 2022 to 113.29 in December 2022. "From the two CPI cities in Riau Islands, it is recorded that Batam City experienced year on year (yoy) inflation of 5.95 percent, and Tanjungpinang City of 4.96 percent," said Darwis.
