The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, reviewed a number of points in the city of Semarang which were still flooded quite deeply.

To overcome flooding in Semarag City, Ganjar will borrow a portable pump belonging to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

"I think we need cooperation between the City Government, the Provincial Government and the Ministry of PUPR so that we borrow several portable pumps for us to install in several places while looking for a rather long hose, so that there is one pumping engineering that I think can be much better, this is what we are trying to try to do, said Ganjar, to support VOI.

For your information, apart from Sawah Besar village, there are still 3 other villages in Gayamsari Cataman that were flooded, namely Tambakrejo, Kaligawe, and Sambirejo.

Ganjar also hopes that the cooperation between the City Government, Provincial Government and the Ministry of PUPR will bring more integrated handling. Moreover, yesterday, Ganjar continued, coordination meetings with the regions including the Head of BMKG and BNPB had been held.

Previously, Ganjar had also asked the Central Java Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and related parties to conduct weather engineering on the north coast (Pantura), including Semarang, which had been hit by bad weather since last Friday.

This was conveyed by a geodesic expert from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) during a visit to Ganjar's official residence in 2021.

"The embankment can be a temporary solution to overcome tidal waves and floods in Central Java."

In addition to short-term solutions by making embankments, medium and long-term solutions are also carried out, namely with land and water management. This method is to control the movement of water resources to minimize damage to life and maximize the use of existing water.

Nevertheless, Ganjar admitted that the handling of robs and floods in Central Java was indeed a difficult problem. Thus, input from experts is needed so that the handling runs as expected.

"I am happy with the inputs. I really hope that there will be recommendations for what kind of steps, what kind of roadmap. So that this handling is based on scientific data," said Ganjar.

Ganjar said that efforts to deal with tidal waves and floods in Central Java had indeed been underway. A number of actions have been carried out, starting from upstream, central and downstream.

"Friends have taken many actions, for example in the city of Semarang which builds pumps and retention ponds. So that the control of Semarang floods is now better. Pekalongan has also been carried out, but indeed this long-term control must be improved," said Ganjar.
