BEKASI - President Joko Widodo, some time ago highlighted the project of the Sunter Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) which has no manifestation. In fact, the construction of the Sunter ITF was planned when Jokowi was still the Governor of DKI.

In early October 2022, the BUMD PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) is still conducting an assessment of potential investors. Apparently, currently the cooperation assessment process with partners has not yet been completed.

"As for the progress of the ITF, indeed, I can only say it is still the same as before. So, Jakpro for Sunter, as stated by the President, is still in the process of finding his partner," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service Asep Kuswanto at TPST Bantargebang, Bekasi, West Java, Tuesday, January 2.

Asep acknowledged that the target to start the construction of the Sunter ITF was continuously delayed. However, Asep hopes that investors can be hooked by the end of this month.

Bearing in mind, in the APBD for the 2023 fiscal year, the DKI Provincial Government has allocated regional capital participation (PMD) to Jakpro as the initial capital for the construction of the Sunter ITF.

"God willing, I will see from Jakpro's friends, at the end of January, they will only get their selected partners. Well, then there will be another process by selected partners, compiling cooperation agreements, including other things that are provisions from Jakpro to potential partners," said Asep.

For information, the idea of the Sunter ITF began in 2009 when Fauzi Bowo served as Governor of DKI. This plan was continued by Joko Widodo to Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, but there was no realization.

While in office, Anies Baswedan, who continued this project, had carried out the groundbreaking of the Sunter ITF since 2018. The laying of the first stone at that time turned out to be just ceremonial because construction was still stalled.

In its development, the construction of the Sunter ITF had planned to cooperate with a power plant company from Finland, Fortum Power Heat and Oy as an investor. However, over time, Fortum left the Sunter ITF project because it was not confirmed.

In the 2023 APBD, the DKI Provincial Government provided capital injections to PT Jakarta Propertindo amounting to IDR 517 billion to initiate the construction of the Sunter ITF. Along with that, Jakpro is exploring the Sunter ITF development agreement, which has a project value of around IDR 5.2 trillion, with potential investors.
