JAKARTA - The Indonesian Air Force deployed two aircraft to modify the weather in the sky in the northern part of Jakarta and West Java. In each flight, the aircraft carries 800 kilograms of salt which is spread at an altitude of 10 thousand feet.

Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service, Marsma TNI Indan Gilang Buldansyah said this activity was based on coordination with BNPB which aims to reduce the intensity (rain) in the DKI area and also several routes used by people who will pass to the Central Java region.

"The goal (amazing) is because it is predicted that there will be extreme weather and high rain intensity, so weather modification technology (TMC) is carried out. The point of TMC is to reduce rain in the appropriate place we expect so that high-intensity rain does not occur in areas where we hope there will be no rain," he said, Friday, December 30.

The anticipation of extreme weather is carried out towards the end of 2022 until the beginning of 2023 in Jakarta and West Java. Two aircraft were deployed, namely the cass type nc 212 series 400 for weather modification.

Meanwhile, a number of weather points to be modified have been mapped by a team involving the Indonesian Air Force, BNPB, BRIN and BMKG. A total of 22 personnel were deployed consisting of 2 pilots and a salt seeding crew.

"This activity is based on the coordination of BNPB, we AU cooperate with BRIN and BMKG. For the location where the salt is seeded at the coordination of BRIN, they calculate in detail and BMKG related to the weather," he said.

About 8.8 tonnes of salt have been propagated at predetermined point points to modify the weather.

"This naming is as expected, the intensity is reduced and in DKI there is still rain but the intensity is not too high," he said.

The weather naming has been carried out since Sunday, December 25 and will continue until Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government planned to make weather modifications in the capital city to minimize extreme weather that could potentially hit Jakarta by the end of 2022 until early 2023.

However, until now the weather modification technology (TMC) in the form of salt seeding using aircraft in Jakarta has not been implemented. The Head of the DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Isnawa Adji said, TMC will be carried out if the hydrometeorological disaster alert status is determined.

This status was determined by the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono by sending a letter to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

"Indeed, there must be a Governor's letter regarding the status of disaster alert. We will send the letter to BNPB, later it will be prepared for salt nurseries in Jakarta air," Isnawa said when met at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Wednesday, December 28.
