JAKARTA - The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwana (HB) X will return the function of the village treasury land or the sub-district to its origin. Kas Kalururahan will return to the village's original income.

Sri Sultan HB X admitted that during the last 10 years the land was rented out was not in accordance with the designation.

"If the land was abandoned/villages were still functioning like in the 1950s, there would be no poor people in DIY," said Ari Sultan on the sidelines of inaugurating the Mataram Food Lumbung in Gunungkidul, DIY, Thursday, December 29, as reported by Antara.

Sri Sultan said that he would change the regulations for the land of the sub-district head not to be rented if not by its own citizens.

The decision of the land is rented out based on the decision of the Governor of Yogyakarta in 1950. According to Sri Sultan, if that provision does not exist, the poverty rate in DIY will not be as big as it is today.

"Why isn't there a poor person? The village treasury land essentially is 'Sultan Ground' which can be used by the sub-district, it is divided into five or six," he said.
