YOGYAKARTA - Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko gave a response regarding extreme weather predictions that would hit several regions in Indonesia. Previously, Climatology Expert at the BRIN Center for Climate and Atmospheric Affairs, Erma Yulihastin, said that there would be extreme weather to catastrophic storms.

However, Tri Handoko stated that the prediction was personal, it was officially released by BRIN. He also said that in the weather forecast his party still refers to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Tri Handoko is also responsible for giving an explanation on the statement issued by Erma. In addition, many parties are curious about the profile of the Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko.

Laksana Tri Handoko was inaugurated as Head of the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) by President Joko Widodo in April 2021. He was appointed to his current position based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 19M/2021 concerning the appointment of the Head of BRIN.

Laksana Tri Handoko was born in Malang on May 7, 1968. This 54-year-old man studied physics on foreign campuses. Previously, Handoko served as Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) since 2018.

Tri Handoko has completed his Strata 1 in Physics education at the University of Kumamoto, Japan. Then in 1995, he won a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of Hiroshima Japan. Three years later Tri Handoko managed to get a doctorate at the same university.

Laksana Tri Handoko started his career as a researcher at the Center for Physics Research in 1987. He became Head of the Physics Group of Theory and Computation Center for Physics Research in 2002-2012.

In 2012-2014, Tri Handoko held the position of Head of the LIPI Information Research Center. He was promoted to Deputy for Engineering Sciences (IPT) until 2018.

Reporting from the official website of Brin.go.id, BRIN is tasked with monitoring, controlling, and evaluating the implementation of the duties and functions of the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

BRIN's duties are regulated in Presidential Decree No. 78/2021. Article 3 states that BRIN's task is to assist the President in carrying out government duties in the field of nationally integrated research, development, study, and application as well as inversion and innovation, implementation of nuclear power, and implementation of nationally integrated engineering.
