The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said 153 houses in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, were hit by flash floods.

Flash floods occurred in Tuakau Village and Siumate Village, West Fatuleu District after heavy rains and strong winds hit the two villages on Wednesday, December 28 at around 20.00 WITA.

"Residents' houses that were flooded due to the overflow of the Siumate river reached 153 houses in two villages. Residents' houses were flooded as high as 50 centimeters when heavy rains and strong winds fell on the area," said Head of the Kupang Regency Disaster Risk Reduction Forum, Elfried V Sane, in Kupang, NTT, Thursday, December 29, confiscated by Antara.

Based on the information he compiled, Elfried said that the rain had just started to subside in two affected villages on Thursday, December 29 at around 03.00 WITA.

Due to the high rainfall, the Siumate River overflowed, causing hundreds of houses to be flooded. Agriculture plants belonging to local residents were also damaged.

The floods that hit the area also brought various materials such as stones and fallen tree branches to residential areas in the Siumate Village area.

Elfried explained that the victims of natural disasters in the two villages evacuated independently to a place that was safe from being hit by flash floods.

"There are residents who are currently evacuating to the local church area that is safe from flooding," said Elfrid V S strange.

According to him, the rain and floods that hit the area had begun to recede, but local residents were still vigilant to anticipate further flooding because the weather conditions were still raining.

He said there were no casualties in the incident because all residents evacuated independently to areas that were safe from flooding.

According to him, the Kupang Regency Government is making efforts to distribute emergency response assistance to help residents in two villages affected by the flash flood that hit the two villages.
