JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said that foreign tourist visits to Indonesia this year have exceeded the target. Even next year the number could double.

"BPS (Central Statistics Agency) provides a record that foreign tourist visits have reached 3.92 million to Indonesia. Therefore, the tourism sector and the creative economy will still be the drivers of national economic growth," said Sandiaga Uno, Tuesday, December 27.

Sandiaga set a target, throughout 2023, the movement of foreign tourists to Indonesia could reach 3.5-7.4 million. From the movement of foreign tourists, the value of tourism foreign exchange is projected to be able to penetrate US$ 2-5.95 billion.

The value of tourism foreign exchange in 2022 has reached US$ 4.26 billion or ten times the realization last year. This achievement also exceeds the target limit of US$ 1.7 or three times that of projections.

The increase in tourism foreign exchange, according to Sandiaga Uno, cannot be separated from the increase in foreign tourist visits this year in line with the post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

Meanwhile, for Nusantara (wisnus) tourists, Sandiaga said the estimated movement in 2022 was 703 million trips.

Sandiaga Uno also hopes that with the Christmas and New Year holidays, the movement of foreign tourists can be close to 800 million, an increase of more than 15 percent from the previous year.

"The contribution of tourism GDP is estimated to increase by 50 percent compared to last year and the contribution of tourism GDP to 3.6 percent," he said.

Next year, he estimates that the movement of foreign tourists in the country will increase to 1.2-1.4 billion. Sandiaga acknowledged that 2022 is a point of revival in Indonesia's tourism sector and creative economy, which is recovering faster and rising stronger.

Sandiaga Uno is optimistic that the contribution of tourism GDP will continue to increase. Thus, next year's contribution will reach 4.1 percent. Meanwhile, in the creative economy sector, he explained that the export rate has reached 3.8 percent of GDP with an added value of IDR 1.236 trillion.

"This of course places Indonesia in the ranks of the country that has the contribution of the creative economy, one of the largest in the world," said Sandiaga Uno.

The former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta continued, during the pandemic, Indonesia lost millions of jobs. However, with the recovery of tourism performance, he said that currently the number of workers absorbed reached 22.89 million people.

"This figure has increased by 1.6 million people compared to last year. Meanwhile, the creative economy managed to absorb 23.98 million workers this year or an increase of 2 million workers from last year. If added up, the tourism sector and the national creative economy have created a total of 3.6 million jobs in 2022," he said.
