JAKARTA - The Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Branch Manager of Bogor Regency, West Java, invited the public to imitate the politics carried out by former President KH Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur.

Deputy Chairperson of the Bogor Regency PCNU, Aep Saepudin Muhtar, during the 13th anniversary of Gus Dur at the Al-Aziziyah Islamic Boarding School, Parungpanjang, Bogor, Sunday, December 25, said that Gus Dur's figure should be imitated both by contestants and voters in the 2024 General Election.

"Gus Dur is a combination of scholars and scholars who should be imitated for the contestants and voters in the upcoming elections," he said.

Saepudin, who is familiarly called Gus Udin, said that one of Gus Dur's leadership styles that should be imitated is the act of uniting all parties in the midst of the incessant identity politics echoed by election contestants.

"He upholds human values, justice, and equality to all Indonesian people," said Gus Udin as quoted by ANTARA.

In addition, according to him, the figure of Gus Dur, who is a politician and cleric, often provides enlightenment to election contestants to be able to harmonize religious interests in politics.

"Gus Dur's knowledge and wisdom are able to bring and unite all religions to be tolerant of each other. This is the time for politicians to imitate Gus Dur's political style so that the nation is not divided," he said.

Not only that, Gus Udin also reminded voters to choose candidates who are able to unite all interests of the people.

"We must start to prioritize the quality of the contestants, lest the bad conventional politics (money politics) become a gap for our nation not to progress," said Gus Udin.
