JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has designated 19 West Sumatra cultural works as Indonesian cultural heritage.

"Every year we do listing and inventory of cultural works and then register at the national level to be designated as cultural heritage. In 2022 there are 19 West Sumatra cultural works that are designated as national cultural heritage," said the Head of Cultural and Minangkabau Heritage Division of the West Sumatra Culture Service, Aprimas in Padang, quoted from Antara, Sunday 25 December.

In 2022, according to him, the West Sumatra Culture Service actually proposed more than 50 cultural works to be designated as cultural heritage. However, of the 50 cultural works, only 19 have supporting data so that they pass and are designated as Indonesian cultural heritage.

"West Sumatra occupies the second most after Yogyakarta, totaling 21 cultural works. With this addition, West Sumatra has chosen 75 cultural heritages that are recognized nationally," he said.

Aprimas said that the many West Sumatra cultural works that were designated as non-object cultural heritage showed the seriousness of districts/cities to preserve them.

"One of the requirements in proposing this cultural work is what steps the district/city government takes in preserving it," he said.

According to him, if it has been designated as an inigent cultural heritage, but in an evaluation for two years there are no conservation efforts, both utilization and development, it will be revoked.

"Actually, after being designated as an existing cultural heritage, it is the responsibility, namely the responsibility to preserve it," said Aprimas.

The proposal to determine it as an inigent cultural heritage, he said, was the government's effort to protect these cultural works.

He added that the district/city government in West Sumatra is serious in protecting cultural works that have been created and developed for generations in its area. This seriousness is marked by the enthusiasm of districts/cities that propose that their cultural works can be designated as cultural heritage.
