JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX DPR RI Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena said the Ministry of Health was completing the construction of the Komodo General Hospital, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, to be upgraded to an international standard hospital.

"The Ministry of Health is completing the construction of a number of infrastructures at the Komodo Regional General Hospital (RSUD) which are prepared to become an international hospital to support medical tourism in the area," said Emanuel Melkiades when contacted in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), quoted from Antara, Sunday 25 December.

According to him, the presence of international standard hospitals is urgently needed in Labuan Bajo, which is a super premium tourist destination.

"Premium super tourism areas such as Labuan Bajo, which are visited by many tourists from various countries, must be supported by adequate health facilities. We encourage Labuan Bajo to have an international standard hospital," said Emanuel Melkiades.

The Ministry of Health is encouraged to accelerate the construction of various infrastructures at the Komodo Hospital and prepare more adequate medical equipment facilities so that the hospital owned by the West Manggarai Regency Government can be upgraded to an international standard hospital.

"If health facilities are very adequate, tourists will be calmer during travel because if something happens to tourists it is easier to handle quickly," said Emanuel Melkiades.

He said he supported the construction of the Komodo Wings International Hospital in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, NTT, which cost Rp6.4 billion.

According to him, the construction of health facilities at the Komodo Hospital is one of the strategies to support health services carried out at the Dr. Ben Mboi Central General Hospital in Kupang.

"The construction of the Komodo Hospital is thanks to the support of Commission lX of the DPR RI so that we appreciate the work of the Minister of Health and his staff to complete the construction of the Komodo Hospital into an international hospital so that the concept of medical tourism can run well in Labuan Bajo," said Emanuel Melkiades.
