TANGERANG - The City Government (Pemkot) of South Tangerang (Tangsel) has prohibited people from lighting firecrackers during the 2024 New Year celebrations. A similar policy was also implemented by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

"Satages should not sound prohibited from lighting firecrackers, (if-ed) fireworks are up, yes, if small fireworks are not allowed. If the top one is allowed," said South Tangerang Mayor Benjamin Davnie when confirmed, Saturday, December 24.

Benjamin hopes that the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) who are Christians, especially in celebrating Christmas 2022. To those who want to extend their holiday by taking leave, Benjamin welcomes.

"Christians are welcome, of course, to participate in Christmas celebration activities as usual throughout the day. This means that if you want to take leave, please submit it first from now on," he said.

Furthermore, Benjamin left it entirely to superiors in their respective institutions regarding the authority to use the Tangsel City Government's official vehicle for personal interests during the long holidays of Christmas and New Year's 2022 celebrations.

"If official vehicles are used outside the city as long as the permit to their superiors, if we don't have permission, of course we will impose sanctions later," he said.

Previously, the Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Arifin emphasized that people were prohibited from selling, buying, and lighting firecrackers on New Year's Eve 2023 celebrations in the DKI Jakarta area.

"Satages are not allowed because firecrackers are dangerous. The fireworks are still safe," Arifin told reporters, Thursday, December 22.
