The Meeting Between Biden And Zelenksy, Bahas Panjang Lebar Soal Serangan Rusia

YOGYAKARTA - The arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the United States was welcomed by Joe Biden at the White House. This visit marks Zelensky's first overseas trip since the war between Russia and Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

US and Zelensky presidents held bilateral meetings between high-ranking officials from both countries. In a joint press conference, Joe Biden said he would continue to help Zelensky when needed.

US lawmakers gathered at the Capitol Building to listen to a speech from the President of Ukraine. Zelensky delivered a historic speech before the US congress on Wednesday (21/12).

Zelensky's speech received mixed applause from the participants of the US Congress. Earlier, the Ukrainian leader discussed war conditions in his country. He compared Ukraine's struggles to US battles in World War II and the American Revolution.

Zelensky compared Ukraine's defense of the Russian attack to the successful defense of American troops against Germany in the Battle of the Bulge in 1994. Ukraine strengthened its defense against Russian forces in the east of the country around Bakhmut.

"We Ukrainians will also undergo our war of independence with dignity and success," Zelenksy said.

Zelensky expects a turning point in Ukraine's 2023 war to resemble America's revolutionary victory in Saratoga. On the 1777 war journey, America defeated troops from the British empire in Upstate New York.

Prior to the meeting of the President of Ukraine and the US President, Zelensky tweeted via his Twitter account, saying their meeting would focus on strengthening Ukraine's resilience and defense capabilities.

The President of Ukraine arrived at the South Lawn White House in a black Chevrolet, wearing his signature olive green sweater and cargo pants. Zelenksy stood between Biden and his wife Jill for a photo.

Zelensky will hold talks with Biden to bolster Kyiv's defenses against Russia's devastating invasion. After attending a press conference, Zelensky attended Congress on Capitol Hill to discuss a meeting with the Senate and House of Representatives.

Zelensky expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Biden, the US Congress, and Americans for their support. Zelensky gave Biden Ukraine a medal for the military services he had provided. Biden said he would give the medal to the captain.

"You are the best guy this year," Zelensky said.

Biden revealed that Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin had stepped up attacks on civilians. Biden also said that Russia uses winter as a weapon.

Prior to the meeting of Zelensky and Biden, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered a package of military aid worth USS 1.85 billion to Ukraine. The assistance provided includes Patriot missile systems. Russia has warned against the missile being delivered to Ukraine.
