Dilema 4 King Maker, Will There Be Renegotiations In The Coalition For The Formation Of A 2024 Presidential Candidate?

JAKARTA - LSI Denny JA has identified that four leaders of political parties will become king makers or determinants of the political map in the 2024 presidential election.

They are PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri, Gerindra Party Chair Prabowo Subianto, NasDem Party Chairperson Surya Paloh, and Golkar Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto. However, the four king makers are predicted to face dilemmas for their various interests.

Political observer from the University of Indonesia (UI) Cecep Hidayat assessed that the dilemmas that occurred in the four as dynamics ahead of the registration period for the presidential-vice presidential-vice presidential candidate at the General Elections Commission (KPU) in November 2023.

According to him, each political party is currently still making the highest offer to be able to run as a presidential candidate. Over time, said Cecep, their bargaining power will be faced with a negotiation process to seek support.

"This is only for political bargaining at the beginning. So everyone wants to become presidential candidates. But later with time, by mid-2023 there will be renegotiation," said Cecep, Wednesday, December 21, evening.

Cecep considers renegotiation is possible when he sees the coalition character of political parties in Indonesia as not having a strong foundation for becoming a permanent coalition. "Because the coalition in Indonesia is a non-permanent coalition. Not too tight," he said.

According to him, it is possible that the figure who is currently being predicted as a presidential candidate will not even succeed in participating in the 2024 presidential election. This is because there will be internal contemplation within the party body to determine the advantages and disadvantages in a contestation and the biggest opportunity to win the presidential election.

"There will be internal contemplation. They will see popularity in society," he said.

Cecep added, there is time for the king makers to explore and mix the expected negotiations. But in the end, he said, these king makers would be realistic in placing positions.

"They will be realistic in the end, looking at the results of the survey and the trend. They want to be proposed to be vice presidential or coordinating minister," he concluded.
