According To The Survey Institute, Surya Paloh Is Believed To Be Even Dilema After Choosing Anies Baswedan To Be NasDem's Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) Denny JA released survey findings related to the dilemma of the four king makers for the three pairs of presidential candidates in 2024. Namely, Megawati Soekarnoputri, Prabowo Subianto, Surya Paloh and Airlangga Hartarto. Among the four king maker figures, the most dilemmatic was the Chairman of NasDem, Surya Paloh. Of the four, only the Surya Paloh party was considered to have turned into opposition because it supported Anies Baswedan. LSI Denny JA noted that the NasDem Party was confused because it was between two difficult choices, wanting to survive or leave the government. According to LSI researcher Denny JA Fitri Hari, the NasDem dilemma occurred because of the strong support for Anies actually coming from the opposition of the government. Fitri said, from the results of the LSI Denny JA survey in October 2022, Anies Baswedan's electability was less high among respondents who expressed satisfaction with the performance of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

At least, explained Fitri, there were 74.2 percent of respondents who were satisfied with Jokowi's performance. Of that number, as many as 32 percent of respondents chose Ganjar Pranowo, 23.1 percent chose Prabowo Subianto, and 12.3 percent Anies Baswedan.

"However, Anies' electability was in first place among respondents who were dissatisfied with Jokowi's performance," Fitri said in a survey presentation, Tuesday, December 20. Fitri revealed that 23.8 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with Jokowi's performance. Of that number, 35.6 percent expressed support for Anies Baswedan, 27 percent to Prabowo Subianto, and 8.5 percent to Ganjar Pranowo.

"From these two data, we have concluded that the first dilemma in Surya Paloh is that he is strong in the voice of Jokowi, but he is still part of the Jokowi government," explained Fitri. "As we know, in today's government NasDem has three ministers, namely the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Communication and Information, and the Minister of Environment and Forestry," he continued.

With these conditions, Fitri assessed, Surya Paloh will be more in a dilemma in carrying Anies Baswedan. Ssbab, this will make the position of the NasDem Party even more questionable in the government.

"The NasDem Party's dilemma remains in government or leaves the government. This is related to the positioning issue to firmly raise issues, whether Anies Baswedan raises issue of change or tends to raise Jokowi's successor issue," said Fitri.

The next dilemma of Surya Paloh, added Fitri, is the position of the NasDem Party in establishing a coalition. Currently, NasDem, Democrat and PKS' Coalition of Amendments has not yet been realized. "Will the NasDem Party accommodate opposition parties such as PKS and Democrats. Or moderate yourself to join KIB with one of its options Airlangga becomes Anies' vice presidential candidate," Fitri concluded.

This LSI Denny JA survey was conducted on October 10-19, 2022, involving 1,200 respondents spread across 34 provinces. The data collection process is carried out using the face-to-face interview method with a margin of error +/- 2.9 percent.
