JAKARTA - Russia launched another attack on vital infrastructure inside and around Kyiv on Monday morning, Ukrainian authorities said, adding the air defense system destroyed about 15 of the 20 drones directed to the capital.

The airstrike sirens sounded for most nights until Monday in Kyiv and the surrounding area, with the sky sunny at 5:50 a.m. local time (07.50 GMT).

Mayor Kyiv said preliminary information showed no deaths or injuries from the attack on the capital, and medics were working at the site of the attack in the districts of Solomyanskyi and Shevchenkivskyi.

"As a result of the attack on the capital, critical infrastructure facilities were damaged," Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging app.

"Energy and heating industries are working to stabilize the situation with energy and rapid heat supply."

A Reuters witness reported that fire had occurred as a result of an attack in the central Shevchenkivskyi District, which is often targeted.

The Solomyanskyi district in the western part of Kyiv is a busy transportation center, train station location, and one of two city passenger airports.

In total, Russia used about 35 Iranian-made Shahed drones in attacks across Ukraine on Monday morning, 30 of which were destroyed, the Ukrainian Air Force said.

Separately, Oleskiy Kuleba, governor of the Kyiv region, which does not include the capital, but surrounds it, said infrastructure and private homes were damaged by night drone attacks.

According to preliminary information, two people were injured. Reuters can independently verify the information. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces said drones were launched from the northeastern coast of Azov.

Russia has made the Azov Sea in southern Ukraine an "inland sea", which is restricted by Russia and Russian-controlled territory in southern Ukraine, including Crimea.
