JAKARTA - The level of public trust in the National Police in December 2022 rose to 71.4 percent. This figure continues to strengthen when compared to the results of the previous survey in August 2022 which was only 56.3 percent.

This was revealed by the Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi), Edi Hasibuan.

He said the increase in public trust was based on a survey conducted by Lemkapi on December 2 to 14, 2022, involving 1,000 respondents aged 17 years and over.

According to him, there are a number of reasons why respondents say the performance of the National Police is increasingly trusted. One of them is the firmness and transparency of the disclosure of the murder of Police Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat with the defendant, the former Head of the Propam Police Division, Inspector General Pol Ferdy Sambo.

In addition, he said, the law enforcement against Inspector General Teddy Minahasa in drug cases was also appreciated by the public.

"The National Police Chief's instructions on the operation of electronic ticketing and termination of manual ticketing throughout Indonesia also contributed to increasing public trust," said Edi as quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 17.

This academic from Bhayangkara University Jakarta said the synergy between the National Police and the TNI in securing international G20 activities in Bali contributed to an increase in public trust.

"We see the transparency of the National Police in responding quickly to various cases of public attention very well. If this quick response is consistent, the trend of Polri's trust will certainly be even better," he said.

However, the Lemkapi survey also stated that there were respondents who did not fully believe in the performance of the National Police, namely 19.1 percent.

"The reasons why respondents do not fully believe in the performance of the Police are various ranging from handling illegal mining cases involving Ismail Bolong, which until now has not been completed," he said.

In addition, he said, the performance of the detective which was still widely complained about and the handling of security at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency which caused hundreds of deaths was also highlighted by the public.

In this survey, respondents also asked the National Police to continue to complete electronic ticketing facilities and infrastructure throughout Indonesia.

In this Police performance survey, he said, there were about 9.5 percent of respondents did not comment.

"We hope that this survey will make input for the Police to be better and the presence of the National Police Chief's Precision program is increasingly being felt by the community," he said.
