Anies Baswedan Considered Bawaslu Curi Start Campaign, PDIP Talks Ethics Leader

The PDI-P (PDIP) considers the electoral assessment from the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) related to the activities of former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to be a reminder. All must respect the stages of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) that have been set by the General Election Commission (KPU). "You can imagine in a university if there is a test, then there are students who do the exam first while others have not yet received an exam," said PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto in a written statement, Friday, December 16. Hasto reminded Bawaslu that it was like a referee in the election. They were indeed tasked with overseeing the course of the five-year contestation, including that none of the contestants had a campaign before its time. Thus, Bawaslu's statement called Anies unethical because his early campaign should be a serious concern. Moreover, this is related to the ethics of a leader. In addition, this incident could be a lesson for all parties. Hasto said there are rules that all election participants must follow. "When Bawaslu recommends it as an ethical violation, then in the category of ethical violations it is actually something that is very clear in nature," he said. "Because it involves ethics for a leader, it is the responsibility as a leader," continued Hasto. Anies Baswedan was previously reported to Bawaslu regarding activities in Aceh on December 2. He is considered to have stolen the start of the campaign. After the examination process was carried out by Bawaslu, Anies was deemed not to have violated any rules. So, he was not sentenced. However, Bawaslu considers Anies unethical because it leads to attempts to steal campaign start. Moreover, he has been promoted by the NasDem Party as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. "Although the report of the reporter does not meet the material requirements, from a political ethics perspective, Anies Baswedan's political safari activities can be seen as an unethical act because he has carried out covert campaign activities and seems to steal startes in campaigning as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election," said Bawaslu Puadi member at a press conference at the Indonesian Bawaslu Media Center, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 15.
