JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in Jakarta, Banten, North Sumatra (North Sumatra) and a number of other parts of Indonesia today, Tuesday, December 13.

Citing the BMKG website via Antara, the potential for heavy rain is also likely to occur in the provinces of Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Jambi, Lampung, Riau, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara.

Similar conditions also have the potential to occur in West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Gorontalo.

Including in West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua, West Papua.

The BMKG said that cyclonic circulation was observed in the West Waters of North Sumatra, in the Java Sea and in the northern waters of Papua which formed a convergence area that extends from the northern Natuna Sea to the northern part of the Malacca Strait, in the waters west of Aceh-North Sumatra, in Central Kalimantan to the Java Sea, and in the northern waters of Papua. Other convergence areas were also observed extending in Papua.

According to BMKG, this condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence area.

Specifically for the DKI Jakarta area, BMKG informed that a number of areas in DKI Jakarta have the potential to experience rain accompanied by lightning in the afternoon and evening.

BMKG reminded the potential for rain that can be accompanied by lightning of short duration hit parts of South Jakarta and East Jakarta in the afternoon and evening.
