PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Regional Police team has arrested a fugitive suspect in the vandalism of the Electric Power Transmission Line (SUTT) tower owned by PT. PLN who fled to Bangka Belitung.

Head of Sub Directorate III Crime and Violence Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the South Sumatra Police, Commissioner Agus Prihadinika, said the suspect was a man with the initials LH alias Nandes (23), a resident of Tanjung Terang Village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.

The LH suspect was arrested by Unit 4 Sub-Directorate III Jatanras in Pangkalpinang City, Bangka Belitung Islands, Wednesday (7/12) evening, after one month on the run.

"Nandes is one of three people suspected of destroying five tower units (SUTT) of PT. PLN in Muara Enim Regency last October," he said.

According to him, Nandes' whereabouts were revealed based on the results of investigators' development of two other suspects Vicen (30) and R (35) who were arrested earlier on Thursday, December 1.

The suspects are casual workers who were given responsibility by a third party from the UPT PLN Palembang subcontractor to look after the SUTT tower in Muara Enim.

Based on the suspect's confession, the three of them deliberately damaged the five high-voltage SUTT tower units because they were not given a salary for two months, worth IDR 500,000 per month.

The five damaged SUTT towers are located in Tanjung Terang Village, Gunung Megang District, Muara Enim, namely SUTT towers 114,117,118, and 123.

Then, a SUTT 109 tower unit in Perjito Village, Gunung Megang District, Muara Enim.

The five towers were damaged by the suspects by cutting the tower's angle iron using a saw that they had bought previously so they could no longer be used.

"Currently the suspect Nandes is still undergoing examination at the South Sumatra Regional Police, then will be transferred to the Muara Enim Police following the two other suspects being detained there," he said.

For their actions, the suspects were charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 170 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 191 BIS 2e and 3e of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of seven years.
