Immigration Calls The New Criminal Code Does Not Influence Tourist Visits To Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized that the newly passed Criminal Code (KUHP) does not affect foreign tourist visits and investment in Indonesia.

"If we look at immigration data, especially the arrival of foreigners through sea, air and land immigration checks to Indonesia from 6-9 December 2022, it has increased significantly," said Acting Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Widodo Ekatjahjana, quoted from Antara, Sunday, December 11.

Referring to the data, said Widodo again, there is no correlation between views that say the ratification of the Draft Law (RUU) of the Criminal Code will reduce the number of foreign tourists and investors and foreign businessmen to Indonesia.

"The arrival of foreigners is not affected by the ratified Criminal Code Bill," said Widodo.

Data as of Saturday, December 10, the total Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) received by the Directorate General of Immigration reached Rp4.2 trillion. Based on statistical data on the arrival crossing of foreigners for the period 6-9 December 2022, or after the ratification of the Criminal Code Bill, 93,144 foreigners entered Indonesia.

In more detail, the arrival of foreigners on December 6, 2022, namely 19,719 people, December 7 as many as 20,611 people, 24,341 people on December 8, and 28,473 people on December 9, 2022.

"This statistical data shows a graph of rising arrivals of foreigners in the same week as the ratification of the Criminal Code Bill," he also said.
