JAKARTA - At the Google for Indonesia (G4ID) 2023 event, Google revealed that there were many efforts to assist the digitization process in Indonesia going well.

Financing Cek Fakta

Google provided funding of US$1.2 million (Rp18.7 billion) to CekFakta, a fact-checking consortium consisting of 24 news organizations of the GNI Indonesia Training Network.

This funding is given to equip more editors, journalists and fact check with the skills and tools they need ahead of the 2024 national elections.

Internet Lab Safer

Google also announced a new initiative plan led by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) based in Jakarta, to develop the Safer Internet Lab.

This lab will research and analyze the sources and patterns of misinformation and disinformation to help raise public awareness of various provocative issues before developing into larger problems.

In addition to fighting misinformation and hoaxes circulating on the internet, especially social media, Google also announced programs to build a creative economy in Indonesia.

Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training

JAKARTA - Still at the same event, Google announced that it will fund a trial program called the Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training, to improve the quality of game development in Indonesia.

In collaboration with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), this program will provide Unity training and certification to 500 students at more than 15 universities and 50 professional developers.

This training is provided free of charge through independent courses online, and developers can also choose online training sessions hosted by instructors.

Bang up Program

Google revealed that Bangkit, a leading industrial training program for students in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, (under the GoTo Merdeka Campus program), Traveloka, DeepTech, and several other universities will receive nine thousand students for the 2023 Force.

When compared to last year, the number of participants for 2023 has tripled. This 900-hour program, which teaches science about machine learning, mobile development, and cloud computing.

Finally, to reduce carbon emissions and consumers of materials in Indonesia, Google also revealed its cooperation with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub).

Green Light Project

This project, called Green Light, will allow a research team from Google to provide recommendations to the DKI Jakarta Government in optimizing traffic light time settings. The goal is to reduce stalled traffic, based on anonymous traffic data and Android-based community mobility data.

The Green Light project uses AI to optimize traffic lights at intersections around the world, to help minimize congestion and pollution it causes.

By using Google's AI technology, it is hoped that this initiative will increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, improve air quality, and make driving activities safer and more enjoyable in Jakarta.
