Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that the addition of specialist doctors at regional general hospitals (RSUD) is proof of the government's seriousness in implementing a better health transformation.

"So I will definitely fill in the regional public hospital, I will fill in the facilities and I will provide scholarships for human resources, the scholarships can be managed," said Minister of Health Budi in a written statement, quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 11.

During a working visit to Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Solo on Saturday, the Minister of Health emphasized that the addition was made to pursue a shortage of specialist doctors and increase public access to specialist health services.

Efforts to fulfill specialist doctors and supporting facilities are carried out in the context of transforming the Indonesian health system, which is adjusted to the mandate from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to the Ministry of Health to carry out a massive health transformation.

Budi continued the fulfillment of specialist doctors at the priority hospital were the specialists in most diseases that caused the most deaths, namely heart disease, stroke, and cancer. The doctors needed are oncologists for cancer, heart and blood vessels specialists, neurology specialists for stroke, and nephrologists for kidney disease.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health targets all hospitals throughout Indonesia by 2024, must be able to serve heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Access to certain services and service standards must be available evenly throughout the province.

The fulfillment of specialist doctors is also in line with the transformation of health human resources. The reason is, the standard number of doctors is one per 1,000 population. Meanwhile, the needs in Indonesia have not been fulfilled, coupled with uneven distribution," he said.

The tightening of health resources will later be pursued through the Academic health system or a policy model that accommodates the potential of each institution into a series of visions based on the needs of the community.

This concept is integration of medical education held, with other health professional education programs that have educational or affiliated hospitals with educational hospitals, health systems and health service organizations.

Later, hospitals that have outstanding doctors will be accommodated to meet doctors from other countries to work together. In addition, the best doctors from abroad will be brought in to increase the capacity of doctors in Indonesia.

"The need for doctors must be increased, there must be acceleration and in the last 10 years the acceleration has been very slow. So this must be accelerated both for general practitioners and specialist doctors," he said.
