Celebrate National Day, UAE Joins 1,000 New Dirhams Paper Money With Special Design

JAKARTA - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a new 1,000 dirhams banknote to celebrate the 51st National Day.

The banknote, which will begin circulating in the first half of next year, pays tribute to the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the space ambitions.

The money was issued by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE). The front side of the banknote contains images of Sheikh Zayed, the country's first president, alongside a shuttle model and Emirates Mars Mission and Maj Hazza Al Mansouri, the first Emirati astronaut to travel into space, reported The National News December 2.

A striking design was inspired by Sheikh Zayed's important meeting with NASA in 1976, to express his ambition to cement the UAE as a major player in the global space race.

Made from polymers using innovative designs and advanced security features, the banknote is the fourth in the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, the Central Bank said, as reported by Gulf News.

The design of this new paper money contains distinctive aesthetic features, with different brown nuances. The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) maintains the same color characteristics of the denomination bank money currently circulating to make it easier for the public to identify, in addition to the blue marks irradiated by the UAE state brand in the middle, as well as images and inscriptions made using advanced intaglio printing techniques.

"The issuance of Dh1,000 banknotes that have just arrived under the vision of UAE President His Majesty Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to follow the comprehensive development witnessed by our country, and represent the achievement and global success of the UAE, as well as highlight its future ambitions in various sectors," explained CBUAE Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama.

Authorities say 1,000 dirhams of cash will still be circulating, although new money will later be available at the Central Bank branch and at ATMs.
