Jabat Presiden Peru, Dina Bouarte: Saya Minta Perketahuan Senjata Politik Untuk Bentuk Pemerintahan Persatuan

JAKARTA - Dina Bouarte became Peru's first female president on Wednesday amid a political vortex, when her predecessor and former boss Pedro Castillo were ousted in an impeachment trial and later detained by police, after trying to illegally close the Congress.

Boutte (60) faces an unpleasant challenge to cure split Peru, where the presidency has been locked in fighting with Congress for more than a year.

"I ask for a political ceasefire to form a national unity government," he said in his first speech after being sworn in as sixth president of the country in just five years.

On that occasion, he also promised to form a wide cabinet of "all the blood".

"I ask for time, a valuable time to save the country from corruption and the wrong government," he said.

Born in Apurimac May 3, 1962, one of the areas south of the Peruvian mountains, President Bouarte spent years working on National Identification Records and Civil Status, which recorded births, marriages and deaths.

Having a lawyer's background, President Bouarte is relatively unknown to most Peruvians to date. In 2018, he only won less than four percent of the votes in the mayor's election in District Lima. He also lost the race for parliamentary seats in 2021.

But, he became famous alongside Castillo as vice president, when the pair won a shock election victory in 2021 for Peru Libre's far leftmost party.

"Even though he was previously experienced in politics, I think after a year and a half as a minister, he has gained a lot of policy experience that will benefit him now," said political columnist Gonzalo Banda.
